Visit spectacular Arusha National Park

A popular day trip for visitors about to embark from the town of Arusha on longer northern circuit safaris, Arusha National Park is a gem of varied ecosystems and spectacular views of Mt. Meru, the crater that gives the region its name.

Here you should see zebras, giraffes, waterbucks, reedbucks, klipspringers, hippos, buffaloes, elephants, hyaenas, mongooses, dik-diks, warthogs, baboons, and vervet and colobus monkeys. You may even get to see a leopard. Burchell's zebras can also be found in the park. The Momela Lakes attract a wide variety of wader birds particularly flamingoes. Over 400 migrant and resident birds have been recorded.

Area: 137 sq km

1960 - Named Ngurdoto Crater National Park
1967 - Renamed Arusha National Park.

Topography:
Varied. Ngurdoto is surrounded by forest while the actual crater is a swamp. West of the crater is an open grassland area called Serengeti Ndogo. Mt. Meru is a mixture of lush forest and bare rock.

- Ngurdoto Crater; drive to the view point for gorgeous views of the park

- 7 Momela Lakes

- Little Serengeti natural glades area surrounded by the forest where grazers can be found

- Walking safari as well as canoeing safari can be done

- Visitors Information Center

- Ngurdoto Museum

- Elephant migration shares ecosystem with Amboseli National Park in Kenya

- And finally; Hiking Mt. Meru is Tanzania's second highest peak and Africa's fifth highest peak.

Typical Day trip. Arusha National Park08:00 Pick up from the Hotel in Arusha and drive to Arusha National Park.
10:00 Morning: Game drive in Arusha Park.
12:00 Lunch at Momella Wildlife Lodge.
14:00 Another game drive still in Arusha Park.
16:00 Return to Arusha and drop off to Hotel.
